My reenvisioning of Everyman is set in late 1950s America, transitioning from a bustling city to a rural small town. Actors build the world collaboratively, interrupted by a prophetic Confession in homeless attire, referencing biblical texts about humanity's flaws. God is depicted as a Mother Earth figure, reflecting our climate crisis, while Death appears as a 1950s garbage man, symbolizing life’s disposal. Fellowship, Kindred, and Cousin are portrayed as shallow, wealthy friends, while Goods resembles glamorous Parisian prostitutes, representing materialism. The Five Wits are a farm family in poorer attire, sharing meals around a dining table. The Angel leading Everyman offstage symbolizes the hope and innocence of the children of tomorrow.
